Fish like coffee? And othe mishaps

1219 Views 7 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Boredomb
I had a freak accident last night, Knocked a cup of coffee off the table onto the lid of my 55. The coffee cup hit just right...most drained in crack of lid into the tank.
Should have seen me running around like a fool draining and refilling to dilute. As of this morning all fish are fine (south american tank diamond tetras and dwarf flag cichlids). There was one odd thing..all fish were on my side of aquariunm watching me intently...drinking my first cup of joe.

Anyone else do something along these lines, would love to hear about it, as I dont want to feel alone in this misadventure.

You've created addicts!
Nope, don't think I've ever done anything like that. Sorry. xD Well, one time I was rounding up my baby cichlids, and I took the driftwood out of the tank to make it easier to catch them. Couldn't find 3, and and I was upset with myself that 3 died and I didn't even notice, and that there were no bodies! I turn around to see them all on the floor, the darn things had stuck themselves into the driftwood that I removed! (They all recovered no problem.)
Im glad they survived, I had a dojo loach that was an escape artist, found him on floor many times, still amazed he evaded the five cats
I was cleaning my first betta's tank and I put him in a glass cup and after the 30 min ordeal of scrubbing the tank (ok I didn't know better.. 100% water changes etc) and turned around to show an empty glass! I was FREAKING out. Hubby and I looked within a 5 foot radius of the glass, counter, floor .. I decided that the dogs might have gotten him and thought about getting a new one. 3 hours later my dog was scratching the floor under where the glass was sitting and I bent down and saw a poof of dog fur. Turns out the linolium was peeled up (old house) and he was sitting right there! I called my hubby who gently picked him up by his back fin and cupped him and we put him in his tank. I did another water change 3 hours later to remove the dog hair and slime etc and other than his left fin not working he was ok. 5 days later that fin started working again and he lived another 2 years.

Oh, and I've had friends set bottles of beer on top of my 10 gallon with a glass lid. Even inebriated I screamed at him that he'd have to replace my fish if he did that again. He removed the bottle but a dust stain remains on the lid to this day. I leave it there to remind him not to do it again. That tank sits next to my dining room table

Well, you're going to have to brew one more cup from now on.

Just make sure the coffee temperature is the same temp as the tank to prevent any shock as you pour it in.

That is too funny!!!
I have never poured/knocked over anything into my tanks but I have woke up to a tank full of Shredded cheese! O_O
Yeah shredded cheese!! That makes one heck of a mess. My step son decided the fish needed cheese and poured in a bunch. It was all over the bottom of the tank, sitting on the leaves of my plants, and just everywhere!!!
I had to do a couple of water changes to siphon all the cheese out.
