the pectoral fin looks bright red, about 1 1/2 cm from edge, not whole way up to body. almost bloody colour. is this a symptom? has been in quarantine for more than two weeks for fin rot while i changed the substrate out. had pool sand now have proper aquarium sand. they have been back in tank for two or three days. not healed yet but significant turn towards betterment. one now has this. anyone know anything about long fin cats or plecos? any tips are welcome

I have a few questions. Has your tank been cycled yet? Do you do regular water changes in your tank? If so, how often do you do it? If the pleco's fin is looking red it could be a symptom of ammonia poisoning. Ammonia can form in your tank a number of ways. It can form as the waste from your fish builds up in the tank. It can also form depending on if you are using water with chemicals, such as most tap water. I would test your water for ammonia and nitrate levels first. You want those levels to be low.
