OK, the sand is in, the tank (29g) is full, my new Fluval 50 is all set up, and I plug it in. Whisper quiet, water is flowing nicely.

For about 1 minute. Then the filter stopped and I can't get it started again. Took it all apart, but it's brand new, there's nothing to clean, the one moving part moves.

Just bad luck or did I do something stupid? I am new at this. The store has a 100% return policy, but if I did something stupid, it'll probably happen again.

Any thoughts or advice?

TIA!

Take it apart, pull the impeller out and rinse the inside well then put it back together. Do this til it runs again. Mine does that after water changes.

THANKS! A tiny nudge to the impeller and off it goes. I was ready to bring it back...

I really appreciate the help, you have no idea.

MY Aqua Clear 50 needed to be primed after every WC. That's the main reason I got a Fluval 206 canister. The impeller couldn't create enough negative pressure w/o water around it so the water would not come up the intake tube until the impeller chamber was full.
