So I see on cregslist that there is a Marineland filter for sale for 20 dollars but it looks to be the 250 model which is 350 GPH. I want to upgrade the whisper 10 gallon max filter on my 10 gallon and i have a Marineland filter i think 100 model on my 20 gallon so if I bought that 250 gallon model for my 20 gallon would it like kill everything in my tank? or would it not matter?

$20.00 for a decent canister filter is a STEAL!!!! BUY IT NOW!!! More than likely it has adjustable flow rate you can turn it down to suit your needs, If no adjustable flow you could easily and very cheaply do a DIY spray bar (plenty of videos on youtube) to spread the flow out. Regardless, buy that filter NOW!! A working canister for that much is RARE. Myself, If it were me, a cheap filtration system would be worth buying a 30 gallon for. Even if it means storing it to save up for a bigger tank>>>

OOOPS!!! My Bad, sorry, forgot Marineland made HOBS. Anywho, thats still a good deal as long as it works, and those bio-wheels are in good shape. Those filters run around $40.00-50.00 at Petsmart. If you gotta replace the wheels, they cost around $10.00-15.00. In that case you would be better off buying new. My only HOB preference has always been AquaClears, they are the most "customizable" and versatile of all the hobs I've seen. The AC 30 would be perfect for a 20 gallon. If that Marineland checks out O.K and has adjustable flow(I'm pretty sure it does) go for it. A proper size AC only costs $30-35.00, sometimes cheaper on Amazon.
