Farlowella seem like a suitable inhabitant for a Discus set up, assuming it could cope with plus 80 temperatures.

I was wondering if anybody had experience with these fish and if it is best avoided at temps of 82-84?

I've seen A LOT of discus tanks with them so I would personally say you'd be fine but I have also heard that they die VERY easily, seemingly with no reason, (otos come to mind) so keep that in mind.

I had one in my old discus tank. The temp was 83-85 and it did great. When you get it, just drip acclimate him and he will be fine.

I have some Ancistrus in the tank so I am now wondering if it would be too much competition for algae. I am using algae tablets anyway so maybe not that big a deal.

Was mostly worried about whether they would suffer illness after a while of being kept in high temps.

Cool looking and interesting fish. I am now seriously considering it!

What type of ancistus(bushynoses right)? What size tank? Is it fully/heavily planted? Plus both of those things eat cucumber, algae wafers, and things like that.

4ft 50g aquarium. Heavily planted. Tons of Malaysian wood also.

2 x Ancistrus (bushynose)
2x Amcistrus Albino (bushynose)

I hear courgette and peas are also pretty cool for these guys.

How many farowella do you want? I'd be a bit concerned with four BN.

Ya it will be fine. Cuz most of the time the bushynose cant go on plants, so the farowella will go on them and eat algae off of them. Just make sure you throw some cucumber in there a couple times a week. You could get a pair if you want.

I am surprised to see you say that as when the lights came on this morning one of the Ancistrus was on an Anubia leaf and one of the Albinos was working its way up some Val.

They are quite small though, the albinos in particular are a little less than an inch.

I was actually thinking of just one Farlowella. If they are better kept in groups I will probably shy away from it, at least untill I get the 110g going but that won't be till next year.

After reading this I wouldn't do the farowella. As adults, I feel the BN will outcompete him for food.

Yeah, I had some concerns about that. I know I can sink some food in but it is always better to have them all eating as naturally as possible.

I was thinking only one.

Well if they are babies than ya they can easily get on big leaved plants. I had mine with 3 bushynose, no issue. Well if you arent going to throw some cucumber or something in, than definitely dont get it.
