I currently have one of the 55/75 on my cycled 30g this will help in cycling the 75 when I put water in it correct? as well as adding some of the plants from the 30g... ill be getting a penguin 350 for the 30g after I get the 75 going

also the plants are plastic plants
would be careful stocking this tank if you intend on an oscar.at around 18" full grown they really need all the tank space. what would you keep with it? you should shoot for 750 gallons/hour or more.i would use 2 canisters on a 75 with an oscar.
feather fin, convict, maybe 1 other thing... not going to have many fish as the Oscar I know will get huge
current filtration is rated at 400 each filter, I have 2 so I have 800

I agree.

800 GPH from HOBs is no where near equal to 800 GPH from canisters. GPH is only one aspect of filtration. Volume of media is more important, and that's where Canisters have it won. The media from those two HOBs would not fill half of a 400 GPH canister.

I bought my 90 from a guy who had a huge oscar and a JD. He had a fluval 405, 305 and an AC110 running on the tank.
what is a cheaper/reasonably price filter I should add then??

im a noob! LOL
sun sun line is cheap and has good reviews. both jaysee and i run sun suns.i know i am happy with their performance.
As am I. I've got 4 of them in different sizes. For your tank I would look to get 2 of the 303s (370 GPH), of not a 303 and a 304 (525 GPH). I can't imagine you'd need more than that.
i still have my HOBs.. 2 canisters and those?
No in place of. You don't have to get the big filtration right away. Get one canister to replace one hob and then later get the second.

pretty much what your telling me is i wasted my money on the HOBs right?

If you want to keep big messy fish? Yes. If you want to keep a community tank they will do just fine.
alright, i understand. guess ima have to go get another tank for them.. ill be using them both for about 2 weeks till i get paid again...
Just so you know, 75 gallons is minimum for a single oscar, nothing else. They really need the room and the filtration that will come with it. You're asking for trouble putting in other fish, IMHO.
