I see one of my female danios with a large belly. Im pretty sure she is pregnant because i havent fed her in a day. Is there any special movements/actions which tells you shes laying eggs and stuff?

A few of my danios are nearly always fat, they spread their eggs instead of laying them. They will also eat their own eggs. We have two babies at the moment from different batches. If you want to breed them successfully then do a google search for breeding danios. Good luck!

From what I understand from what I have read is you will never see the eggs unless you are right there looking at them when they drop them. YUou only know they have layed eggs when the alvin (egg sac fry) start showing up in the large marbles but that assumes you use marbles. Otherwise it is hit and miss and a really good eye until they are free swimming.

well my breeder tank is being used up by my oto so i dont plan on moving fry there. Also i dont use marbles since there in my normal tank and marbles arent good for long keeping. THe tank is heavily planted so hopefully the strongest of the fry will survive.

THere fake plants though....

I had no problem with breeding danios - the problem was they would never stop!

I never saw any eggs, but when it came to water changes, the bucket of dirty water would be full of fry.

The ones I left in the tank would never survive even though the tank was densely planted, so I set up another tank for them and did raise a number of fry to being fully grown adults.

It's a really nice feeling to watch them grow and develop. :)
