I didn't know right away that I would be wanting to add shrimp to my tank. My problem is that the Wardley flake and the shrimp pellets I've been using list copper as one of the ingredients. I've read that it's impossible to get rid of copper once it's in the tank. Does this mean I can never have shrimp?!? Any suggestions? Thanks.

One more thing...I've never medicated, just the food with copper.

does it list the amount on the tub? trace elements are aceptable but copper is sometimes used as a color addative remember all the water you put into the tank nearly always comes out of copper pipes anyway

It's listed as the fifth from the bottom so I'm sure the concentration is low. I just don't want to kill the poor things out of my stupidity. So are you saying if I switch to another brand they'll still be ok?

should be fine most foods will contain a trace of copper the shrimps themselves contain copper they just have a very limited tolerance for it

A lot of breeders of shrimp feed them shrimp pellets which have copper anyway. I don't see a porblem with the small amounts that will be in the foods. I think it is more a warning about using treatments like coppersafe which will kill shrimp. Even if you have used it, copper is removed with water changes and levels would go back down to trace amounts in a short amount of time and carbon filtering will remove it. Just don't throw a penny in there os dose any medication with copper. Is best to use a hospital tank for treatments if you have shrimp anyway.

Thanks y'all. I'm quite relieved and will be planning an addition of shrimp! I'm a happy camper now.
