I have to assume that a few of these little buggers is normal in an established tank. They are present in almost all other bodies of water. The problem is I have been seeing them in ever increasing numbers and they are living a lot more in my sponges for AC20 HOB. Are copopods an indicator species or are they just going to keep growing and become a problem?
They are extremely small, maybe the size of a pinhead and are really cool to watch them eat the nematodes when I have them under the microscope. Black in color, have an off shaped roundish shell and have 2 little mouth parts that they use to catch their food. I think I have identified them right but also to want to make sure so they don't turn out to be some kind of nasty.
