I have a larger convict cichlid and a smaller one and recently, a dominant fish died, so the bigger convict has been bullying my littler one, ( I have plenty of hiding places mind you ) and today I came home and my little one is at the top of the tank, his tail is slightly torn, he's trying to blend in and I'm not sure what to do, I don't want to lose him,

I had an african red zebra, and there is a blood parrot in the tank who is most definitely holding his own, ( he isn't going after the other fish though) and the tank is 39 gallons.

Unfortunately, a divider is certainly out of the question and I won't be able to get any more fish for a week at the least. These are second generation fish and I'm afraid I've gotten attached to the victim so I'm struggling to come to terms with the whole "survival of the fittest" idealogy
