My "thanks" button is broken - but thank you for doing this just the same!
We should collect them from BF (BettaForum), and Saltwater, too!
I KNOW there are more, but my brain isn't working right now. . . >.<

Not sure what it stands for. Distilled, perhaps?

Fry, Bioload and Overstocked would be a good to add as well.

lol, people need to know those, but they're not abbreviations!
You'll never be able to define 'overstocked' or 'bioload' in one word! ^__^
Updating the list in post 2 (I don't want to UN-sort yours by type :/)

Lemme know if I missed any, or if you think of more - I KNOW there are more! o_O

Oh! DI - Deionisation

Never seen that used here!

Do whatever you feel necessary, Chesh. I just figured that having it sectioned off would make it more useful to someone looking for a specific abbreviation. I think common terms should be included, summed up in 1-2 sentences, that's why I added those. They are important in the fish world. Maybe that's another sticky, though?

Another sticky, *I* would say. But that's a decision for the Reference Team!
Both teams are working on a lot of changes to our Reference Section, including sorting through/cleaning up our current stickies - it could be that one of those exists, too - but is lost somewhere in the forum, lol!
If not, we can make one! Or add them in, if RT wants to do it that way. Can't hurt to post them here and start a 2nd list?

Thanks for all your help, Flint! <3

I'll write up a common term list tomorrow. I'm too pooped to put a lot of thought into anything right now. I just responded to a thread and now I can't find it.

I'll add to the cleaning up the forum thing in my next pm response. I was just thinking about that.

I steer clear of too many abbreviations as it can be rather confusing when they start to overlap each other or conflict with non hobby related terms. When you start to do salt and fresh it becomes even more complicated. I do think there should be a translation page such as this but I do not promote using them.

I suppose there are times when it is appropriate but those are exceptions.

As a rule, I agree with you, Gilly.
I'm guilty of using a few of them, though my in-born love of writing prevents it from being *too* often
. . . my posts might be far shorter if I did. >.<

Guilty of that one, for sure! Also - TMS, MTS, ADF and Crypt. . .
. . .andsince I do what I do here TFK, BF, OP MT(Moderation Team) RT (for Reference Team) RS (Reference section). I'm sooooo tempted to build an entire sentence without using a single complete word right now! ^__^

Gilly - I retract my previous post! >.<

I love English! Especially when its put to new and interesting uses. I know that it doesn't matter and probaly no one cares, but most of the items on the list are acronyms NOT abbreviations...
Acronyms use first letters in place of whole words, abbreviations shorten words. ex- acronym: USA, RTS, WTF, NASA
-abbreviation: gal., tsp., wed., hygro.,
Seriously though, thanks for the list, many times on this forum I get stuck at an acronym or abbreviation and have to guess.

My rics, acros and acans, need calc, alk, and mag mixed from my moded RODI of proper temp before more RTN sets in from a recent frag.

Whenever I see GSP I think of Green Star Polyps seeing as it is a common coral, but I am sure you all are thinking about a certain puffer. I did not know about the puffer thing until I was trying to figure out how there coral contracted ich and was swimming funny gasping for air.

I try and stick to writing and typing more but am guilty of using the acronyms\abbreviations form time to time.

Thanks again for the thread.

Be it abbreviations or acronyms using too many on here can be too confusing to ppl especially new ppl on here. Even if you make a sticky on it Ches not sure everyone will know where to find it or even know one exist. I mean look at how many we have now and where they are.
Not saying making a Sticky for this is useless but just say maybe using words would be best most of the time. Especially when one acronym has more then one meaning.
