Hey everyone, I picked up a Aquaclear 30 for dirt cheap. But the owner told me it was from a badly algae tanked he had. There is algea everywhere on the filter (I bought a brand new sponge, carbon, etc). And a few yelllow sticky stuff around the motor. I also bought a flexible scrub thing to try and clean the intake and stuff.

What is the best way to clean the filter and make it "brand new" so I can use it in my tank?

Thank you!

dilute vinegar at a 10part vinegar 1 part water and run it for awhile it a spare small tank then flush and scrub with a toothbrush and run with water and 10x dose prime then let really dry. Should be clean and good then. some say 19:1 ratio but thats all up to you. Just make sure it's clean and free of the smell of vinegar once done.

if you dont have a small tank do that in you can use a bucket or tote. Also the motor does come off that filter so you can take it out and just let the whole housing soak in that solution in a bucket for a day or two.
