it's not a very good pic of characodon los pinos it's a very nice looking fish.
possibly extinct in the wild. .

Very nice fish. Looks like a latralis-butched the spelling- off shoot. I'd go with at least a 29gal heavy planted tank and live foods. Great find update the thread.

it do Look like latralis , there are a number of C. audax populations. can hybrid
all populations should be kept in a species tank only. I have been keeping and breeding los pinos for about 7 years.
Allotoca diazi is a very nice looking fish easy to keep very rare in the hobby .

Under certain Light conditions they reflect a nice yellow colour on the lower part of the belly.

Sorry Skiffia,I missed your post before. I have never kept Goodeids, but they do fascinate me. I appreciate you showing off your fish and hope you're not done doing so. I also hope their are some other keepers on here that chime in.

I realize you keep pure populations, so not sure why I'm asking this, but how do you feel about Skiffia 'black beauty' given that it is a hybrid, but one started for noble reasons?

If you don't mind ,I've got a couple of question .Are Limias considered Goodeids? I understand Goodeids are quite touchy when it comes to water temps, how do you deal with too warm conditions?

jpepe1-Forgive me for being lazy and not typing this all out, but Limia is a genus in family Poeciliidae, while Goodeids are family Goodeidae. Both are in the same order, Cyprinodontiformes. (This is where I get lazy) They both produce live young, but there are differences.

ipepe1 there is at least 19 species of Limias . 42 species of goodeids most of them do well in water temps of 68f-74f some species will suffer or even die when kept above 74f.Girardinichthys viviparous best temp 64- 70f

I keep various locations or populations of Characodon. I have visited Los Pinos twice and have not been able to locate Characodon there.
