Okay, so my canister filter came in today and I can not get it up and going. I put the media in the 3 trays, hooked up the intake and the output, filled the canister with water, still not working. The filter isn't pulling water in. I have a prime button, but when I push it, it can't get over the hump from over the top of the filter downward to the canister. What do I need to do to make this work? :x

Pump like buggery my friend. You'll have arms like Arnie in no time. Try raising the cansister to start with, to get it going then lower it once running. :D

Whew....okay, I had the filter primed but couldn't get the intake tube primed. I took your advice daz, and now my back and arms are dead....BUT....it's running! It actually adds a very nice flow in the tank too, looking forward to getting back on a more regular water change schedule now that I have much better filtration. :)

Nope unfortunately it doesn't have that...so, it's going smooth now and it looks great--I'm wondering how to dismantle it when I need to clean my media.

Eddie, are those something youve purchased seperate, or did they come with your canister? I have the RenaXP3, which comes with a similar set-up (removable cap atop the intake assembly). Ive never looked for an individual intake assembly sold seperatly, though one would assume they're out there

They have twist on/off caps. I usually prime my filter and then fill the intake hose with water.

Dan, it appears as though your model has shut off valves at the hose connection to the unit top. My assumption would be that, to clean the media, you will need to apply the following steps:

disconnect power, or turn unit off
close both shutoff valves.
if disconnects are available, disconnect the hoses from the unit top
otherwise remove the unit top as a whole.
clean/replace media and container as desired.
refill the canister
replace the top or hoses, depending on the method applied.
open the shutoff valves.
the natural syphon should cause the water to fill the remaining area of the canister and force any air out of the outlet.
then restart your canister filter.

the filter may make a bit of noise as the remaining air is forced out of the system.

Awesome, thanks for the maintenance tip. I shouldn't have to take it apart for a while (30 days?) so if I need more help I'll be sure to post! :D

Oh yeah, almost forgot...for my 'out' I took off the L curve and put it straight down...will that present a problem? It is shooting water out just fine, but I forgot to ask earlier.

Well I still have 2 HOB's and 2 airstones, so that should agitate everything enough....thanks for the heads up on that though, I'll keep an eye out for it.
