I've set up quite a few fish tanks, but I recently got my first decently large tank set up of my very own. Its custom made and dimensions, but lets just say its 71-72 gallons.

I currently have a spotted severum who is currently about 6 inches long:

And I love him very much. Really cool personality, and gorgeous fish. This tank is in the family living room, and I am having some MAJOR requests from family members if they can buy this Discus they saw at the store. Its pretty similar to this picture:

Anyways, I've never had the luxury of being able to buy the more expensive types of fish (my severum was 55 I think?).. so I'm not quite sure if these two can share a home. I know Severums can be decently peaceful but, and I know every fish is different, so I guess I'm concerned about the space? Thoughts?

Well you stated the tank size, however giving the actual dimensions will help.
For example, if you have a tall tank then of course you're going to be stocking it less, regardless of gallons. However if it is a long/shallow tank then you can add more fishes due to the larger surface area.
Then again, discus do well in taller tanks due to their body shape...

It's 38 inches long, it's at least 24 inch tall, it's also 26 inches wide...so it's like a big square rather than a long skinny rectangle. The severum loves it, it's his kingdom. If it's not possible then it won't be a big deal :)
