so I started on a pond in my backyard, I have completely dug the pond and now getting started on the waterfall. My backyard slopes up on a hill so I will make the WF at the top and wind it down (stream like) down into the pond. The pond is going to be aprox. 4500 gallons. The deepest part of the pond is about 3 1/2 feet. I have the pump and filter already, now just waiting on my EPMD rubber liner to come in. SO my question is this....I dont want to use koi in the pond as I think maybe the pond is still too small for them, I live in South Texas (San Antonio) so there really is never any winter here and yes our summers are blazing hot...So I was thinking of maybe getting a submersible heater and keeping african cichlids in the pond instead of koi/comets/gold fish. Has anyone ever heard of someone being successful doing this? I know they like warm water, and like I said maybe during the winter we have about 2 days or so that it would even think about getting to 32F but thats a big maybe lol. I think with a sub. heater I should be ok huh?
