Any recommendations/advice/building plans for a nice 'cage' for a large boa constrictor?

Sure, just get a humongous aquarium, put a screen lid on it and provide the appropriate heat, lighting and food.

We keep a variety of snakes at where I work. The main concern is that it should be extremely sturdy cause boas are very powerful snakes and love to make escapes. I'd say it should be at least 6-8 feet long, 2-3 feet wide, and 2-3 feet tall with a minimum of about 10 square feet of floor space. Use paper/paper towels or reptile carpeting for an easy cleanup, but you can also get something like pine-nuggets.

I'd get a branched shrub, or some logs for the snake to climb on...also a small pond, or tub of water so the snake could moisten itself up.

What kind of material are you going to be using...plywood? melamine? Also some other things to consider...

Heating for the cage.
Lighting.
What kinds of doors.
Ventilation.

All should be considered and well-thought out before you rush into making the cage.

you should talk to DPrush about it..cuz he has plans to build a plywood tank with glass viewing area...and i have actually seen these with HUGE snakes housed in them...so would be propable to ask him about it...

The snake is actually my husband's -- witnessed its birth and all. I'm not particulary fond of keeping a snake, but I do want to give it a comfortable living area. Its current keep's made of sturdy plastic, but a misplaced lamp melted a hole -- to small for escape, but scary enough to get me worried. We had an enclosure built for reptiles, made of plywood, but someone left it outside too long and it fell apart.

So, just looking to do it right the first time. Never heard of melamine. Was thinking plywood.
