I've been planning on Panda Corydoras for some time, but could never find a good place that stocked healthy specimens. I've eventually found a decent place and I've reserved 4 Pandas to pick up tomorrow. I would have got them today but the tank's a mess, and I want to get it cleaned up before I pick them up. :)

Anyone got any tips, or comments, about them?

Thanks,
Kathryn :)

Did a little research on google. Looks like Panda's prefer a slightly lower temperature than most. Were I keeping them, I would set my temp right at 75F (which seems to be the upper range of their natural habitat). Smaller than the "average" cories at 2 rather than 3", they prefer a slightly larger school (6 rather than 4 as a minimum). I'd get 2 more if I had the tank space, the funding, and the four you have. Their beautiful little critters. May you have joy of them.

Thank you very much.

I will lower the temperature slightly for them, but unfortunately I don't have the space for more. If I could I'd have millions, but tha is sadly not possible in a 100 litre tank.
:(
Hopefully they'll be happy though! :D

I'll do my best. I'm in the middle of a water change just now. :)

Exactically what I am going to be doing once I finish my chicken pot pie. :)

I saw some of these at my LFS today. I also found that they will give a 20% on livestock if you bring in livestock for them. They're getting fancy guppies, and I am getting Panda Cories. (And red eye and von rio tetras)

I've never seen the tank looking so clean for months. Haha. I always seem to miss an area when gravel vaccing, but I was very thorough yesterday. It took me ages to get in and behind all the plants, but it's done at least. I just want the pandas to be happy. :D

I've got them!!
They're so lively!! Lovely, playful fish. I'm so happy! :D
Anyway, here's some pictures:

I've got them!!

They have only been in the tank an hour, but are going crazy and are the funniest little creatures I've seen. They are tiny, 2cm at most, but have more personality than all the other fish put together. At first the Black Phantoms hassled them a bit, but after 10 minutes or so that settled down. They now live in the left hand corner of my tank, swimming up the stems and leaves of an Amazon Sword plant. They are not at all shy and come right up wo the glass. I'll show you some photos I've already taken!
Thanks everyone for helping me out.
Here we are:

I'll post them on my tank thread too. :)
Enjoy!

Kathryn, glad you got them okay - and lovely shots. I do like panda corys.

Also, well done on the shots of the black phantoms, in particular - the fourth picture down of the male.

Thanks a lot. :D
It's just luck with the pictures, I just snap away and take hundreds of photos, and pick out the best!
The pandas are, as I said, so lively! I expected them to be quick frolicky (if that's a word) but not as playful as this! It's nice to see them playing though. :)
Thanks again,
Kathryn

wow those are really small! and by the way nice serpae tetra.
It's actually black phantom. Far different from the red phantoms which I have.

Serpaes are so easy to confuse with the Robertsis(Hyphessobrycon robertsi), rosy(Hyphessobrycon bentosi), Red Phantoms(Hyphessobrycon sweglesi) and Black Phantom(Hyphessobrycon megalopterus).

The bentosis lack the black dot on the side of their fins. Red Phantoms can change color from light pink to fiery red. Serpaes just behave differently from other tetras and will nip other fish viciously which is why I avoid them. Black phantoms are just as stunning as the red ones and having the ability to change their color depending on their moods.

Those are some sweet pix. :nicefish:

I'm so glad you posted this, K. I saw these little fellows at the LFS yesterday, and got a shoal of six for my daughter's tank. Cute as a button. Did a sand bottom especially for them. (But kept all the substrate from the old tank plus an active filter, plus decorations that had spent 4 years in an established tank. If it's possible the short the cycle, I have done so.)

Wish my frickin' camera were working.
