All you Angelfish owners out there. I was wondering what do you feed your fish? What is the best foods to feed them. Also how many different varieties of food do you feed them?
Thanks for your opinions!

I just got five angelfish yesterday. They have had frozen bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp. They seem to love those. Just need/want some more variety to feed them. I will go and look for some cichlid pellets tomorrow. Is there a brand better then another with those?

Plumkin I notice that you have Colombian tetras. Do you have any problems with them being nippy? I had seven before I got my angelfish and they nipped my my GBR's tails. Not to mention at each other on occasion. They were okay with each other at first then I don't know what happen? I soo I rehomed them with a Lfs.

I can't remember which brand I got , just look for the ones that have a color enhancer for fish , I got the really small pellets otherwise they will be too big for the angelfishes mouth

Mine are in a community tank, they are fed flakes, I rotate between 3 different brands, about once a week I give them thawed blood worms, which they wil snatch from my fingers. I also feed them every once in a while another frozen food from San Francisco bay brand called cichlid delight which has turkey heart, brine shrimp and daphnia which everyone seems to like. My angels will also go after the shrimp pellets and the algae discs that I put in for my bottom feeders.

Congratulations on your great purchase. I love my angelfish they are such great characters. Mine are fed a mixture of what everybody has mentioned, but once a week I also put in a small amount of peas (depending how many fish are in the tank). I use frozen ones, boil them for a couple of minutes, cool them, squish them and remove the skins. Helps to stop them getting constipated.

So I went to petco today. The only foods I could find was Hikari Cichlid Cichlid Staple in a bag. It is floating pellets. I also found some frozen beefheart. So along with that I have frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp. Is a good variety?

I'd go with Hikari staple, some sort of algae-based flake (might be sold as livebearer food) and some freeze-dried foods.. like bloodworms.

I prefer to feed fish foods similiar to what they would eat in the wild... Have you ever heard of a discus or angelfish devouring a cow?

Lol I agree with redchigh , although I have fed my kribs beefheart whilst getting them conditioned for spawning but I'm sure brine shrimp or similar would have done

Soo frozen beefheart is out. They don't like it and will not eat it. Also I have to get some smaller size pellet. The ones I got are too big. I thought they were small enough but nope not the case. So I will save them till they get bigger.

Yeah, I am right there with you. I don't do the beef heart thing with mine either. Partly because I don't wish to handle such things. I feed mine, Bloodworms, Mysis shrimp, Krill, Hikari Tropical Micro Wafers, Tetra color crisps, Brine Shrimp and the occasional algae wafer that isn't meant for them but they pick at it anyway. They are big beautiful and vibrant colors so... I am hoping they are healthy. They certainly look it.
