Hi Everyone,

I am still very new to keeping fish. I currently have 2l cold or temperate water tanks. One with 3 platys 3 white cloud mountain minnows, 2 Danios and a plec. The other larger tank has a fan tail goldfish and loach. I wouldn't normally have a goldfish as I don't believe it's fair on them but I took it on-board as a friend was going to 'get rid' of him

However a different friend is again looking to 'get rid' of his fish and I am now known as an adopter of fish and quite enjoy it, I have offered to take over the tank.

The new tank is 94litres, tropical and is currently stocked with 1 Gourami, 1 Golden Sucking Loach, another Loach I have not seen yet (or been told what it is) 1 Tiger barb and 1 African Dwarf frog.

My current tanks have been running well for almost 2 years with no deaths and no issues (apart from an algae bloom in the platys tank that I resolved quickly) but I have no experience with tropical fish.

The tank has been running well for a year I'm lead to believe, but I'm not sure on the stocking? From what I've read it's not a great mix? I have no experience with tropical fish and I am trying to research and get as much advice as possible before I take the tank.

Any advice on how I can make the stocking work add fish to make some more placid? Or should this work itself?

I was considering adding the danios and platys but from what I've read not convinced this would work or help matters?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks .

Thanks very much for that, the tank is arriving this weekend, it's already set up and going. I'll try and use those tips to make sure it's set up correctly, from what I under stand there is no foliage in he tank.

Cheers buddy

Do you have pictures of the loaches so we can identify? Do you know which species of gourami? The tiger barb should probably be rehomed as they should be kept in groups and can be nippy so not a good fit with the gourami.

Hi sorry I haven't responded just got the fish, unfortunately one of the loaches died the night before I took the tank but I have photos of the other loach now, it seems too big for the tank probably 6inches long?

I've kept the danios and plates separate at the moment as I'm afraid the loach might go for them?

Also it is a golden gourami I'll post another picture of it, it seems quite placid and peaceful so far, though the large loach somehow manger to pin it to the floor. I think I'm going to contact a store tomorrow about possibly rehoming the loach..

Malaysian Trumpet Snail 'to have or have not' ?

Hi

I am really new to this hobby and I have set up a planted tank with a tropical soil powder as the substrate; i have read that I need to areate it to prevent pockets of toxins forming and Malaysian Trumpets do the trick to stop this happening. I would really appreciate your opinions on this.

Many thanks
