I purchased a very pregnant platy 3 days ago & placed her and another female who did not appear to be pregnant in a 5 gal quarantine/baby tank. This morning there are no fry and the female no longer appears pregnant. Her belly is no longer swollen and the little black eyes are gone. I have a sponge filter, java moss and some floating live plants in this tank. Can they reabsorb their babies due to the stress from transport? Its such a small tank I would definitely see fry if there was any...any ideas?
I have two 10 gallon tanks and ever since I added these live plants with long curly leafing the babies survival rate has tripled. I also added a Java fern and African fern. The babies are hiding among the leaves and towards base. I don’t separate (just too busy so I’m relying on tank setup to protect the babies). Not sure what plants will work best in a 5 gallon, but read up you don’t want anything too big. I’ve attached a couple pics so you can see the hiding places they have available.
