If you can't afford 16 of them, then how can you afford 16 tanks, 32 breeding pairs of plecos, 16 heaters, variety of foods for the pleco, 32 pleco caves, 16-32 pieces of wood for the pleco tanks, lots of rocks pleco tanks, lots of water for daily water changes, RO unit, meds, etc?
8 tanks with 2 filters on each, total of 8 groups of plecos, 8 heaters, live food, 16 caves which I am making out of river rocks which are free, 16 pieces of medium size wood at $4 each, tanks I am making, play sand for substrate.
You do not do daily water changes on a pleco spawning group because that's how you stimulate them.
Filters cost $100 each MIN so if I can get in touch with a wholesaler I can cut the price.

I have to ask. Why do you need a substrate when you are trying to breed unless the plecs need to dig the bottom? :squint:
I'd say 8 tanks is a big jump IMO. If you fail in everything else, then so much for wasting the cash.

I agree. I didn't catch that one. For breeding, it's better to just keep in BB. Less cost (no subtrate to buy), easier to clean, easier to see fry.

I know had pleco spawn, and trust me once a month is pushing it. I am getting a RO unit for my plecos because I need perfect water. I am adding a layer of substrate because I need my plecos to feel that they are in a safe and natural habitat. So ill be building the internals sides of these tanks as natural and eye pleasing as possible.

I doubt you'll ever give them perfect conditions.
So to speak, the term perfect is too far to be used when you are trying to refer to the water conditions a fish needs. That term is really debatable. It has been mentioned already that their habitat isn't that perfect at all or even far from ideal. Mulm, pH swings, etc.
I must say that rather than saying perfect, the plecs need ideal water conditions.

I'm not trying to discredit you for this but a mere correction can often help.

And if you can't use black paint, get sheets of black paper or black waterproof materials and try to stick them to the glass(back and sides). Adhesive tape will do. Oil is best used on waterproof materials. Just slide them using a credit card to prevent formation of bubbles.

I know what is involved financially, I am getting 3 L168 so I can breed and try to help out with the financially issue (sell for $75 each) but I do not mind spending all my pay checks on this to get it up and running.
