I'm planning to start a new tank soon with live plants, and I eventually plan to add two cockatoo apistos. I might do some celestial pearl danios as tankmates too, but I'm undecided on that yet. I'm not new to fishkeeping but I am new to live aquarium plants. Does anyone have any suggestions for good beginner plants that will work well for those species?

TIA! :smile2:

Hello and Welcome!! I believe that Anubias is a good one but don't make the mistake of planting it deep in the gravel or soil. It likes to be up above and attached to rocks and stuff. Mine seems to sit a good 3 inches above the ground and the roots reach down into the gravel.

Good beginner plants would be Anubias as previously stated, however they grow very slowly, but they don't need a lot of light. Java fern is another great one, grows a lot faster and will tolerate pretty much whatever you throw at it. Highly recommended. Java moss is also highly recommended, the main thing with the moss is to not have high temps for very long. 82 degrees for a week and it would suffer. Rhaose are all great plants, and the Apistos would appreciate the cover. Attach all of these to several pieces of driftwood. I have several beautiful planted tanks in my videos, please have a look at my you tube channel for several ideas and inspiration. I really hope this helps.
