So I have a 10 gallon im looking to set up while Im in college and wanted ideas for non-aggressive, colorful or 'charismatic'. It will be planted, I have 2 corys already and 1 nerite snail in another tank that will move over to the larger one.

So any suggestions?

What does it look like? I would rehome them and get some habrosus, they will be A LOT happier in the tank.
So you could stock it like this
Option 1
1 betta, 1 dwarf gourami, or 1 honey gourami
10 ember tetras, chili rasboras, galaxy rasboras, or some other small nano fish
OR
6 neons, glowlights, or some other small fish
And
10-12 pygmy or habrosus cories

Option 2
Pair of rams or apistos or peacock gundguns
10 nano fish
Or
6 small fish
And one of the dwarf cories species

Option 3
1 male and 5 female pea puffers

Option 4 (river tank, dont really want plants and what the tank to be at like 70)
1 male and 2 female neon blue stiphodon gobies
1 male and 2 females rainbow stiphodon gobies
5 white cloud minnows

Option 5
7 female betta sorority
One of the dwarf cory types

You can also throw the nerite and some ghost and/or amano shrimp in any of these, besides option 3.

Oh haha, im new to fish, dont know names and such yet.
And if I dont want a pair because i have no room for the babies to go, could I keep a pair of either males or females?
And a pair of cichlids and 10 nano fish ontop of that? Isnt that a bit much?

Not really cuz it will be planted and filtered (right). 10 nano fish is like nothing, same with the dwarf cory types. I would say do a pair of apistos. They only breed in acidic water and are somewhat hard to breed (for a beginner). The colors on the male will be a lot better with a female. I would do;
A pair of apistos (a smaller type would be better, i will find you some types if you want)
10 ember tetras (like an inch make size)
10 habrosus cories (males an inch and females inch and a half)
3-5 shrimp if you want (depends of type)
1 nerite snail (one will be fine)

Scarlet badis are related to the perch (i believe) and are hard for a beginner to care for. Apistos live in south america with leaf litter. The shell ones you are thinking of are shell dwellers. Look up apistos and read up on them real quick.

Is there a cichlid that dosent breed easy that are shell dwellers, because what I read abut the apistos ids they are harder to care for. Im going to be in college and a super high maintenance fish isnt ideal.

Apistos arent hard to care for, some are but most arent. Shell dwellers have whole different care and if you get more males they will kill each other. Plus they dont like planted tanks and would be the only thing in the tank.

I would do a pair of german blue rams (the eat their babies/eggs) a mystery snail and a betta. A lot of the fish mentioned are not compatible for a variety of reasons (temp, tank size, ect) though I'm not going to go through and nitpick right now. I do agree with rehoming the cories. Just my opinion but I'm biased because I love my rams and betta in my 10. :) so much fun to watch and beautifully colored.

I shouldnt of. They need warmish water, good water chemistry and a good diet. They are also interbreed for all those colors that they are more likely to get diseases. They are not really a beginner fish. Flint, you are not a beginner, that is why i am saying this. They are perfect once you get some experience.

They all had ich, one that wouldent go away to high temperatures or aquarium salt. My lfs is very poor at keeping them and I dont want to have to deal with that sadly. I have probably 10 in 2 months, and quit keeping them all together.
