There is no reason why that shouldn't work if its done correctly and you're patient. This isn't something that can be slapped together in a week or 2, but it is very possible.

i've actually harvested copepods in a 10 gallon before so it is very possible, I used a small canister filter and 2 36watt compact flourescent bulbs and then filled the tank with live sand and caulerpa from a refugium on a different set up and just let it grow.... eventually i started sticking a few peices of liverock and some different colored zooanthids along with a small powerhead and cleaner crew and it turned into another nano reef, but it worked fine before it got fancy : )

Be careful what animals you decide to put in there. A 10 gallon will hold 1 ocellaris clownfish, but that's the limit. If you want more than one fish, possibly 2 small gobys, such as shrimp gobys or clown goby/shrimp goby combination. 10 gallons won't sustain a lot, and if you overstock it then you risk causing issues quick. Also, be careful which corals you put into that size of a tank. Not all corals can handle being that close to each other, and most have sweeper tenticles that can span anywhere from 5 - 16 inches in length, used to sting each other. If they sting each other, they eventually wipe each other out to allow enough space for themselves... you typically end up with only 1 coral in the end. If you need help in what is safe to put into a nano, let us know and we can make some suggestions for you.
