So I started a 5 gal two days ago, rinsed my substrate and added water and set up lighting/filter/heating and added decorations, I used stones and a few seashells, all of which I boiled for a while and scrubbed. On the water I used a conditioner and 'stability' which says it's just bacteria...

I need help with the kind of substrate to...
I have a 6 gallon tank which I've been using as a betta tank for some time, with only plants (Elodea) as filtration, and no substrate. I've been regularly changing around 50% of the water a week and generally trying to take as much care of it as possible. I've asked about whether it's ok to use...

I have a 10 gallon marine tank, yes I know thats small, that has 3lbs live rock and will soon have about 2 fish or so and anemones. Is a protein skimmer more necessary because of my tank size or can I do without it with regular water changes?

I have a tiny 2.5 gallon tank. I have a small heater by Tetra that I buried under the gravel. It works fine, but there is no way of regulating the temperature. So if I leave it on all the time, my water goes up to 85. It's a pain having to remember to turn it on at night when the house cools...
So I found a LFS that took my 3 catfish and 1 rainbow shark i inherited. My freshwater tank now has "high" levels of nitrites and i beleive is going to be cycling properly.
Im not sure if there are any low level plants i could add into my tank but i would be interested in some greenery.
