I have a 15 gallon tank w/ nine danios and three tiger barbs and a lot of plants. Today I tested my water:
CO2= 0 Based on the schedule
NO3= somewhere between 0 and 12.5
I use flourish excel fert 5 ml every other day.
based on the schedule I read 5.0 is the ideal level.
Do I really have to worry about my CO2 level?
Too much co2 will put all your fish on the top of the water struggling for oxygen.
Low levels of co2 won't really matter unless you're running high light full pressurized systems with top notch plants.
Does my CO2 low level matter?
Is the CO2 level causing a problem?
Not really. First, because you dose Excel which is an alternative to CO2 (I believe the dose is 1 ml per 10 gallons daily= 1.5 ml for a 15 gallon tank). Second, because the relationship between KH/pH and CO2 is flawed
No, I read that aquatic plants need CO2 at minimum level of 5.
It depends on what you are trying to grow. Many plants will grow without co2. If you're growing plants that REALLY need a co2 dose it's gonna take more than a t8 bulb to grow them at full potential. Most co2 systems are gonna give you benefit on a high light setup with more difficult plants.
These are 2 of our pressurized CO2 tanks.
This first tank is a 20 long with a quad t5 ho light @ 96 watts.
This tank is a 40 long with a quad t5 ho @ 216 watts
All plants need co2 for photosynthesis, just not all plants require you to add co2. Kinda depends on plants and what live stock you have..... Like if you have a heavly stocked tank you won't need to add co2. Plants are always going to be limited by the least abundant reasorce so co2 might not help as much as you would think for 200 or what ever your start up cost would be.
P.s. I use excel on my ten everyday, seems to be helping..... Black algae prob is almost over for now
I dose 1 mill per ten gallons as stated above
