Help! My fish has fin rot and ick!
I have a 10 gal tank with 2 goldfish, and one of them (Black Moor named Sylvester) is staying at the top of the tank and won't swim down. He also has a considerable amount of ick and tail rot. He seems to have lost the ability to move his right cadual fin. PLEASE HELP!
If you dont have one already buy a GOOD aquarium test kit.Check your Ammonia,Nitrite, and nitrate levels.Fin rot is almost certainly because of a high amount of ammonia. To deal with this,in the short term, dose flourish prime. In the long term however, keep up with your maintenance check your water WEEKLY.Ick is probably because of your water quality or the fact that you didnt quarantine your fish :C .Buy some API "Super Ick Cure" either in powder or liquid, and dose it every second day for 2 weeks. Considering you have goldfish,I dont think it would be a good idea to crank up the temperature too much but you should still do it in moderation.Next, buy and dose AQUARIUM salts. Not table salts, not saltwater salts. I had ick wth my angelfish tank and this is what I did,I got ick because I didnt quarantine my fish -.-
We all make mistakes.Luckily, this is a fixable one.Good luck!
Agree with sev. Most problems with finrot and white spots are results of water quality. Most fish will shrug off infections in good water . I would start 25% daily water changes while the problem lasts.
Yeah, I agree with above posts. Begin dosing daily water changes asap, it would help a lot, don't forget to dechlorinate too. By the way, I recommend getting the goldfish a bigger tank in the future. They get quite big! :)
You are having these issues because your tank isn't cycled. You need to be doing daily WC of at least 50% and turn up the heat to 86. Meds aren't necessary with ich. The fish, though small, are producing too much ammonia too quickly for even an established 10 gallon, you are going to continue having these issues if you don't upgrade them.
