Just got an email back. She's actually sending the fish through Canada Post for that price! I suggested that I could get one from Aquabid all the way from Thailand for a similar shipping cost, but she said she was saving me the headache of dealing with a transhipper.
I guess Petsmart bettas are my destiny...

Thanks for replying. Those are good questions! I may email Rena's Fish Store back and question why it is so expensive. I was expecting $10-$20. Thanks for answering my questions...and helping me to ask the right ones back!

I see you posted this question in the aquabid thread too. IMO yes its pricy BUT I don't know standard pricing for shipping in Canada.. though I recall hearing about a lot of postal strikes a few years back.. someone up there told me getting mail on time was very unreliable/unlikely but I don't recal which region they lived in. Down here (the states) usually 2 day shipping is $8-15 depending on seller and how they pack and overnight is $35 for US mail, nearly $60 for fedex (private mailing service) x.x So I guess the question is are they using regular post or a specialty mailing company to ship?
