Ahh... Well, I've had Tiger Barbs for about three years now. However, from a pack of around 25 or so Tigers, some of them have died through that period, so now the total count is 14, which is surprising due to the fact that the Tiger's average life spans are around 3-4 years. I've added a few porthole catfish, some platies, and some lemon tetras to the tank, and they have not bothered each other (...I think). They fill some space in the empty areas around the main congregation of Tiger Barbs. However, be cautioned. You will need quite a number of Tiger Barbs for them to survive with Porthole Catfish. With only a few, the Porthole Catfish will be nipped to death. Sounds ironic, eh? But yes, MORE Tiger Barbs actually prevent them from killing other fish (and each other) as a pecking order is more diverse. So yeah. Hope that helped in some way.

How long have you had Tiger Barbs? I just love mine. They are not fully grown yet. I have had them since they were very little. I have 4 Tiger Barbs, "The Indians": Cherokee, Appache, Chawktaw, & Crow. I also have 3 Green Barbs, "The Cowboys": Buffalo Bill, Billy the Kid, & Wild Bill Hickcock. They Have really brought a lot of life to my tank and I love them. I am very interested to learn anything I can about these delightful little fish.
