I have been doing aquariums the same way since I was 12 years old. The way my Mom taught me. Under gravel filter and that is it. Partial water change, normally after my fish started looking stressed. I tried to have plants to take up the nitrates.

I have been running:
20g (guppy tank)
5g (amano shrimp and java moss)
1g (Beta, wife's)
I did not realize how many aquariums I have been accumulating!
Not counting the 3 mentioned I have: 3g, 5g, 10g, 35g, 55g & 75g tanks.
People give me tanks and I pick them up on the side of the road and reseal.

Now for a change!
Broke down the 20g tank yesterday, I am setting up the 75g as a cichlid tank.

I am doing things I have never done, wave makers, no under gravel filter, UV and a DIY sponge filter with filter media inside.
I bought 100 lbs. of crush oyster shell from Tractor Supply for substrate. Decorating with big rocks, drift wood or branches and a few BIG plastic plants.
I am 56 and I am excited as a little kid standing in line to get into the circus tent! :grin2:

This is a 5g shrimp tank, plus one snail. It is now OVERGROWN with java moss.
I put a tiny sprig of java moss in it a year ago to see what would happen.
It took over.
I am planning to take it out and attach it to rocks, maybe make a moss wall across the back, or attach to sticks and make it look like a tree.
Not sure just yet.

This is a 1g tank I have what was my moms.
My wife has never had an interest in aquariums, so I set this up for her.
I took her to buy a beta. I set it up to be pretty. She likes it. It is right next to her recliner. I even heard her telling different people about her beta. She named is Sapphire.
The setup is not to my taste, but she likes it.
