Hello again, everyone!

After a long absence, I'm finally back here on the forums. A warm welcome to the legions of new members we've gained since I've been gone, and congratulations to everyone who has joined the forum staff during my time away!

Some updates on my tanks:

My 29g community has had rough times. Some sort of unidentified illness spread through the tank, killing all but one of my beautiful black ruby barbs and all of my cories. The cories were a particularly rough loss as they were some of my oldest fish. I never saw a single visual indicator of disease other than a general sort of sluggishness so I was really clueless as to how to treat them. Then, out of nowhere one day one of the baby kribs killed the sole surviving barb, leaving the population as nothing but a krib colony. I've still got the two adults and have about eight or so juveniles (although some are getting pretty darn close to full grown). Soon I'm going to break down and pull all of the decor so I can catch and sell the juveniles and get some more fish in the tank.

I posted a bit last summer about my badis badis breeding; well, out of several batches of fry, one little guy has made the cut and is now about half the size of the adults and lives peacefully with them and their zebra danio tankmates.

The convict is still as fiesty as ever and has gotten some real size on him. I kind of wish I had a darker substrate as he's pretty washed out looking over the white sand, but he seems to be a happy, healthy guy.

That's pretty much it...it's essentially business as usual in my other tanks. Anyway, I'm glad to be back!

Welcome back Jim, it's nice to see you around again. Sorry to hear about your fish losses though - hopefully things have settled down now.

They have. The legendary hardiness of the cichlids has proven itself time and time again, especially in that tank. This is my second major disease outbreak in the tank (one a while back wiped out all of my kuhli loaches and tetras) but none of the kribs ever showed even a slight sniffle.

He was growing really quickly and I ended up not having room for the 125g (which is still in storage because I will have room some day!). I didn't want him to have to live in a 29g so now he lives happily in my brother-in-law's 55g with a firemouth. Happily for him, anyway, as the firemouth is scared of him despite being the senior tank resident.

Welcome back, Jim! Glad you returned. I also am sorry to hear of your tank troubles. You'll get them dialed in again in no time.

PS. How's school? Knowing you I assume 4.0, and the same goes for the G/F!!

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...

welcome back.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.
