Exclamation Need help. Injured Mickey Mouse Platy

So I don't know if it was caused by me or not.

I was cleaning my tank today, I've had some new Mollies and Platies in my tank for about a week now, I use a battery vacuum to suck out water. I swear that I was watching to make sure no fish got near my sucker.

It wasn't until I went to fill up the tank, that I thought one of my mickey mouse platies were swimming upside down, but then I noticed that in fact she was missing the top skin of her head. She's swimming okay, and since I fed them before changing the water, I added a little bit of food, she's not touching it, but it might be because she's not hungry.

I was going to leave her in the big tank and watch over her, but one of my mollies keeps sucking at her head, so I'm in fear that the open wound may cause others to try and eat her alive.

I put her in my hospital tank, but don't know if I should add anything. I have aquarium salt, and not sure if that will cause stinging or any type of pain. I am considering taking her back to the store, but I know she would be killed right off the bat, thinking that if I can try to heal her, she might have a chance.

Any one have any ideas? Please I don't know what happened, but I want to help her.

Oh ouch! Do you have any decorations in the tank that she could have gotten wedged under? Or anything sharp?

I would keep her in the hospital tank and do daily water changes. If the wound area gets worse or fuzzy, you might want to try using something like Melafix which is a mild antiseptic to ward off secondary infections.

I think you'd be fine with AQ salt to help boost her immune system in the meantime. Just make sure to follow doses and remember that it doesn't dissipate in the water so you'll want to only use a dose for the amount of clean water you are adding to the tank.

Good luck, I hope she heals quickly.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

Thanks for the reply. That's why my only thought was making getting hurt when I was cleaning, because I make a point not to add any decorations that could be sharp or harmful. I'll watch for any better or worse reactions to her wound. She's not bleeding, and is still swimming fine, which I hope is a good sign.

My hospital tank is small, so I'll be needing to do 100% water changes every day, and I have water prepped up to make it easier. I do really hope it helps.

Clean water is the best medicine

Edit: Do you have a heater in the hospital tank?

Sadly no, but with my house being really hot and the tank is in the hottest part of my house, the temperature stays being consistence.
