20 gal tank
78F
0 ammonia/nitrite. <20 nitrate
1 betta, 8 rummy nose, 3 ****** loaches
live plants
sponge filter and small HOB

I used to have an issue with blue/green algae which was resolved via chemiclean treatment a few months ago. Now I'm getting carpets of brown algae on gravel, plants, filter, glass that I have been manually removing 2x a week. Any solutions/ thoughts on cause?

The worst cause of algae for me, personally, is leaving the lights on too long. Even with live plants, I find that 5-6 hours of the overhead light is perfectly fine, and any more than that can make the algae explode.

I'm assuming you're doing regular 25%-ish water changes and all that, and your parameters seem fine, so that's the only thing I would guess. Best of luck, algae's really annoying :/
