25g Journal (rescape)

The 25g needs a major overhaul. Unfortunately, i cant seem to locate any 'great' pics before the rescape so this will have to do.

It was a jungle of ludwigia, so that had to go. :)

I decided to do a minimalist scape, and focusing on a select few species. And this time, it will be a peninsula instead of a normal (front and one side) view..

Specs:

Tank: 25g (80cm x 40cm x 30cm) (31inch x 16 inch x 12 inch)
Filter: aqua one aquis 500 (with glass lily pipe intake and outtake)
Heater: aqua one 200 watt set to 24C/75F (looking for inline, but hydor is discontinued in Australia...)
Light: Up aqua ET series (60cm/2foot)
CO2: currently yeast, but looking into pressurised
Ferts: either DIY or a good set of dry ferts... currently none
Substrate: white sand
Decor: Goldenvine (found aus wide in LFS) and dragonstone

PLANTS:
- Bucephlandra sp. (Currently unknown)
- Aunbias barteri var. nana
- Anubias barteri var. nana petite
- Anubias barteri var. white
- Anubias barteri var. cofferforia
- christmas moss
- fissidens fontanus
- java fern var. windolov
- amazon frogbit (added once flooded)

Currently debating on whether to add some spare micro java fern... probably yes, but unsure where... and this list is likely to grow.

Proposed stocking:
- 8-10 C.habrosus (salt and pepper cory, currently have 2)
- 6 otocinclus
- 4 B.maculatus (left over from previous stock, one developed a fungal infection in the quarentine... euthanized, and after a couple of weeks introduced the rest to the 'current' stock.. soon after, nearly all have had it except this 4.. no treatment avaliable in ive tried has worked except euthanize.)
- RCS
- crystal shrimp

(Potentially stocking witha shoal of ember tetra... we will see.)

So... without further ado. Here it is (dry start)

Back:

Side:

Front (where I sit at my desk):

Ignore the orchids, they for my hermit crab tank once its ready... currently they enjoying the light and high humidity if the dry start. They will be gone soon.

Well... already worried that i may run out of room for plants so increased the amount of decor, a small spare piece of wood from previous scape which will be perfect for this.... :)

Wood close up (currently just micro java fern)

Also think helps increase depth on the side too compared to before...

Most likely (knowing me) I'll probably move it around a bit until happy, but won't do another update unless something major happens.

Its now been flooded, most of the stock - except the cherry shrimp - have been moved over. I thought the wood would of been fine and not float, but it has a residue pocket left so unfortunately cant flood fully. Enough for at least 10g of water, so im happy.
So unfortunately i cant use my lily pipes - which is fine, since the intake broke a few weeks back and still waiting for replacement to come in the mail - so its not 100% done, but good enough for the time being.
I can tell thar the heater is going to be an eyesore, debating whether i should plant some carpeting plants - under the filter area - and hide it somehow or go with an inline - that unfortunately hydor discontinued manufacture of the AU plug.... but ill make it work.

The fish seem rather happy with their new dig, and not hiding with is comforting to see - never done sand so was unsure of their behaviour especially in such an 'open' tank.

Crystal red

Everything else attached, except this patch of buce... so i gave up and tied it on.

MTS - good for this substrate

Sub adult BN pleco... he is going to a new home since he is like a bull in a teashop... plus i think to keep a 6 inch fish in a 25g is a bit cruel... eventually otos will replace his role - and they more size appropriate.

C.habrosus (hiding, they camera shy)

B.maculatus

And some cool shots

Well, i forgot to cover up the tank well and as a result, my anubias white and velvet mini dried up. The roots still look fine, so im hoping i just loose the leaves (and let it grow back) instead of losing them for a stupid mistake.
As the result, i just decided to flood it fully - which more water never is bad IMO. Dilution is always the solution.
Of course, i didnt like how the spraybar looked, so thats gone and the heater has been moved to the 'back' wall.
Overall, clean scape. Cleaner once I get my glass lily pipes in....

Melted plants... decided to corral the amazon frogbit just in case it lost it leaves, new growth doesnt get overrun in algae

Animal pics (might as well)

Recently purchased some more CRS since i had only females. I want to breed these guys and get a colony going. ;) Oh, and some ember tetras. Since they were on sale, I just decided to buy them. Hopefully they as 'aggressive' as the boraras maculatus.... Otherwise, they will be rehomed to my angel tank.

Other than that, tank going well. Luckly I didn't loose my white anubia, but did loose my mini velvet (i had a spare tucked elsewhere, I'm glad that i left it there...) so hopefully everything will be fine. Plants have already grown in mass, particularly the xmas moss - or at least to me it has.

I decided to do a filter clean, cause I felt like it had a low flow rate (and hadn't been serviced since like july last year....). Was pretty much clean, very little mulm buildup - only the fine filter sponge required some cleaning and filter floss.... Unfortunately, flow rate did not improve.

Dunno why the water looks si colour, not really like that in RL - more tannin stained.

Haha I was wondering how long it would take for someone to notice. A gift from a extended family member from her recent trip to Antarctica and South America - its a glass penguin. Since its dyed glass = inert. He ensures that all of my fish and shrimp remain safe.
