I'm setting up a tank after a couple of years hiatus and have come across this product and wanted to know if it's as good as people say it is:
Seachem Alert Combo, selling on eBay for AU$20 (Item # 132616163341) Anybody use them?
As for my little tank it's 165litres, filtered through an Aquis 1250. I intend putting on a wet/dry filter with the inlet hooked to the output of the Aquis (assuming the outlet isn't too much!).
I'm not keen on the force of the outlet right now, so I've aimed it at the side of the tank to deflect some of the flow.
I had it trickle filtering through a hangon filter while I was getting the tank ready but am going to be getting rid of it. If you're in the Melbourne area you can have it, it's only like 3 weeks old.
I personally consider those alert things a waste of money, many that I know who have them say that the reading can be inaccurate... and i have to agree, nothing beats a good quality test kit.
Actually I've actually never had much success with planted tanks, they always didn't thrive.
Having said that, I've got 3 plants in this tank and I'll see how I go.
My 1250 sprung a leak last night, luckily I checked before I went to bed!! Also lucky I keep it in a big deep bucket.
I couldn't find the leak for the life of me so I ended up fibreglassing the filter on the inside.
I'll check that the leak has fixed and if so I'll run it for about a week on another (fishless) tank before hooking it back up just in case.
The resin will be fully cured by tomorrow so fingers crossed.
Attached is a pic of the wet/dry filter I plan on adding although mine will be 5 trays wide.
If the force is too strong for that, I suggest an easy 'T' piping unit to break up the flow between the trickle filter and directly into the tank. Have a ball valve so you can throttle back the water going directly into the tank, and you have a system that you can control the rate of water going through the trickle tray.
Well, the mystery leak has got me baffled so I'm picking up an Aqua Zonic E02 pump, it's submersible, can shift 520 litres/hour and it has a 1m head which should do me fine.
Plus it's only AU$22- Bonus!
