Is my undergravel filter working.?

I don't know if my undergravel filter is doing anything. The 1'' tube looks a lot worse than a couple of small air tubes running down at the back and I'm not sure of any benefits either. What should I do with it.

60-gallon:1common Pleco, 1 bristle-nose Pleco,9 neon tetras,2 pearl gouramis, 1 gold twin-bar platie, 2 pineapple swordtails, 1 golden panda molly.

Throw it away and get something that works better. How much are you looking to spend on a new filter?

125 - BGK, chanchito cichlid, pictus cats, silver dollars, palmas bichir
125 - cichlids (severums, bolivian rams, chocolate), rainbows ( turquoise, red), loaches (angelicus, zebra, kuhli and horseface), plecos (BN, RL and clown), denison barbs, tiretrack eel, pearl gouramis, betta
90 - Congo tetras, african knife, upside down cats, spotted ctenopoma, kribensis, delhezzi bichir
2.5 - betta

The air pump is pumping air down under there. I'm not saying it doesn't work I'm just wondering what exactly and undergravel filter accomplishes.

60-gallon:1common Pleco, 1 bristle-nose Pleco,9 neon tetras,2 pearl gouramis, 1 gold twin-bar platie, 2 pineapple swordtails, 1 golden panda molly.

It moves water over the gravel bed, which houses bacteria which purify the water. As bubbles rise through the water, they create a vacuum behind them. The vacuum pulls the water up to fill the void, and thus the water is churned by the continuous flow of bubbles. I know youíre not saying it doesnít work - IíM saying it doesnít work . I mean yeah it works, just not well compared to other available options.

I think this is a good choice for your 60 gallon.IMG_0901.JPG

You can get the model without UV for like $10 less.

You could still keep it as a secondary filtration incase the main ones fails. Better yet, hooking up the filter outlet to the UGF and running it in reverse?

Yup thatís a good idea - maybe that will keep the filth from accumulating under the plate.
