Filter on 29G

Hi all
i am planning out my tank still! I got tank home, cleaned it, cleaning the rock. Also noting what I have with it and if it will work on what i need it for.
its a 20g high. has aqueon 50w heater, penguin bio wheel 100, topfin led light.
at this time i need to know if the filter will work for a planted tank. im wanting to stay with shrimp, few snails. not doing a co2 system.
for this tank i want to take my time to set up. i want to succeed! this will be my first planted tank

thanks all!

Is this for a 29g or a 20g high?
However, it should work fine in a planted tank! Particularly if you have species of plants that don't require CO2 system.

Good luck with your tank.

Owner of fish, hermit crabs, shrimp and plants!

Hermit Crab Association (HCA) is a great resource for hermit crab care

next question is for the filter on the HOB, i was given the extra filters of which has carbon, do i use these as i cycle? also when i get new filters could i just get the roll of filter pad and cut it to fit?

when i fill up tank what is good to add to water to dechlorinate?

I would just cut some filter foam and use that instead of the carbon. You can just save the carbon cartridges for if you ever need to remove any medications.

A good water conditioner to use is Prime, especially for newly set up tanks with fish. Prime will neutralize ammonia and nitrite making it safer for fish in a cycling tank.

150 Gallon - Mostly American Cichlids
135 Gallon - Angelfish Community
75 Gallon - Odd couple (Polleni/Angelfish)
55 Gallon - African tank
20 Gallon Long - QT
10 Gallon - Empty
