As long as you keep the roots trimmed. You do not want them to make their way down into the impeller.

There is a hob sold at petco, that has a insert for plants. It is called an elive aqua duo filter.

I have a aquaclear filter in one of my tanks that has a plant growing into one of the sponges. I keep it trimmed to the shape of the sponge.

Spider plants work well for this. Pothos also work well.

I have spiraled bamboo growing out of one of my tank's filter. The roots aren't more than about 1.5 inch long, and have not caused any trouble at all, and I've had it like that for at least 6 months. They are attractive too.

10 gallon- 8 Harlequin Rasboras, 1 female betta.

20 gallonH - 1 Peacock Gudgeon, 2 Skunk Cories, 1 Sparkling Gourami. , one male betta, 2 nerite snails.

55 gallon - 3 Turquoise Rainbows, 1 Boesemani Rainbow, 2 Australian Rainbow, 4 Gold Dust mollies, 1 L. Dorsigera, 2 White Cloud Mountain Minnows, 1 Honey Gourami, 3 Cherry barb, 1 Koi Angelfish, 4 female betta.
