New to aquariums

I have recently setup my first ever aquarium. Its a 16 gallon tank with three live plants in it, my plan is to give it a week to cycle through before I go with a gourami and some tetras. It seems easy so far (low maintenance is what im going for with my first tank) and im just curious what i should be testing for, other than pH, before getting my fish. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

I would use more plants.

FWIW PH can be high in a planted tank because the plants consume co2. Please don't try to correct that.

you could also check out the link in my signature. Just my low maintenance planted tank methods.

best tank ever and as usual this is just my .02

maintain Fw and marine system with a strong emphasis on balanced, stabilized system that as much as possible are self substaning.

have maintained FW systems for up to 9 years with descendants from original fish and marine aquariums for up to 8 years.

With no water changes, untreated tap water, inexpensive lighting by first starting the tank with live plants (FW) or macro algae( marine)
