Exclamation Nerite snail anatomy

We've had this little guy for a couple weeks now have have really grown attached to him! He went missing this afternoon and freaked me out, spent 30 minutes trying to find him. As a last ditch effort i began to take the filter out to make sure he didn't end up in there and I found hi wedged between the filter casing and the glass (in the tank). I gently unstuck him, I couldn't get the filter back in place without moving him. What I'm worried about is he didn't suck himself back into his shell all the way, he was about 95% in and he did move a little when I touched him. I put him back down in the tank and he immediately started moving all around looking for food. He made his way to the glass and as he was moving from the substrate to the glass I noticed a spot that looks like his body is pulling away from his shell and I'm freaking out!

I've never seen him from this angle and I'm not entirely certain how a snail is built, is this normal for when he's out and moving?

I can't discern any issue with your tiger nerite depicted in your images, but take solace in the fact that he is moving and eating.

FYI it is exceedingly common for nerite snails to ascend to the rim of the tank as you describe. I have a total of close to 20 olive nerites and tiger nerites in my 75G tank and at any given time 8 or so are trying to climb (seemingly) right out of the tank! I leave them alone and next day they are somewhere else. I feed them slices of cucumber and green beans stuck on a fork to keep them sunk. They LOVE it!

IMHO your little guy is likely to be fine.

Thank you! That does make me less anxious :). I would have left him where he was but I couldn't get the filter back on!

I've been offering him some zucchini and so far he isn't interested but it's only been a couple times, he might not realize it's food yet.

Appreciate the response :)
