Looking for some advice on stocking my tank.

Hey all,

I'm new to the fishkeeping world and I'm looking for some advice on what to stock in my tank. My tank (90 gallon) is currently cycling using filter media from a friends well established arrowana tank and a few goldfish (9) in there (simply because I didnt like seeing the tank empty ).

So, while I'm waiting for the tank to cycle, I thought I'd research what I'd like to put in there to ensure compatibility (for both aggression and water parameters). The problem I've run into is there seems to be conflicting information on this subject. I'll read or watch one thing that say they're compatible, then 10 mins later I read or watch something that says they're not.

Thus, here I am asking you guys and your plethora knowledge to please give me some clarity.

Here is what I'm thinking of stocking;

Dwarf gourami × 2

Angelfish × 2

Crimson tetra ×10

Sailfin molly × 2

Galaxy Rasbora × 10

German blue ram × 4

Pleco ×1 (not sure which type doesn't exceed 6-8")

From what I gather these fish *should* get along.

I am also open to different stocking options, my goal is a colourful, peaceful community tank.

Please help!

Heres my suggestions on stocking:
- just keep one dwarf gourami. They prone to fighting, in particular males - which is commonly sold, since females aren't as colourful.
- angels are likely to snack of the galaxies... I would do one or the other
- do you happen to know what species is 'crimson tetra'... a few species share that common name.
- for the mollies, get males since they are prone to breeding - and overstocking the tank
- for the pleco, consider something like a BN, rubbernose, L133 and zebra pleco. Could also do twig catfish as well.

Dwarfs rarely get along and many are not peaceful. I like them too. I just set aside a half hour twice to just watch the ones my LFS had. I picked the one that never chased the others. I wanted a red but only a blue was passive. He lives with 7 guppies and will let them steal half the blood worm he is eating.

Consider stocking your tank over time and get the smallest fish first, a week later get the next smallest etc.

Angles are not for me but looking for small, passive ones may work.

if you want a gourami i recommend a group of 3-6 honey gourami instead of dwarfs. honey gouramis are much more peaceful and a group of them is really interesting to watch . if you want a pair of angels make sure to buy several more then you want so you can pick out a pair that wont fight also if you get a breeding pair of angels they may be super territorial while breeding.

Over Stocking Only Becomes A Problem For The Fish When They Can Feel It, But It Becomes Your Problem When They Feel It.

My opinions:
- stick with one dwarf gourami (likely to fight, one gets stressed.... and dies)
- depending on the species of barbs, it can cause problems with the guppies
- stick with male guppies
- reduce the danio school by a bit IMO... its a little bit overstocked, and the dwarf gourami will appreciate a smaller (less active) school.

On the internet they say caution when putting tetras and dwarf gourami together. I have done it and they get along wonderfully. Dwarf gourami are some of my favorite fish. It's too bad you can't put two in the same tank.
