Discus filter turnover recommendations tend to be in the region of 3 times to 10 times (although I have seen it as low as once) per hour.

I would say that rather than quantity of filtration that the quality is far more important. You could be turning over the water 10x per hour but 80% of the flow actually bypassing the media with an economy brand whereas a quality brand may only turn it over 4 times an hour but there is no bypass. People will often look at some of the economy brands and their huge turnovers and wonder why a brand like Eheim is so much more expensive, there is a very good reason.

Remember your discus require low flow but with careful positioning of the pipework it is possible to create low flow around the tank with no dead spots but with a high filter turnover.
