after weeks maybe months of cloudiness, high ammonia levels, high nitrates and sometimes even cloudy milky water my levels with 4 african cichlids are all really good and have been really goof for 3 weeks.
My question to all here is now about filter media and changing it

I have an equal clear 110 and was wondering if i should just change charcoal only and leave the bacteria on the bio beads and the sponge?

I wouldn't mess with the beads or sponge, unless the sponge was absolutely filthy and impeding water flow, then i would lightly rinse it. I decided years ago to stop using Act. car. in my tanks, I don't think it is necessary if proper tank upkeep / water quality is maintained . I only have it on hand to use if I need to remove medications.

You save heaps of money too by not having to replace it on a regular basis.
