Cyclung a fishless tank

I probably am not in the right place to ask this question but will ask it anyway. I have been cycling my small betta tank for a month now and my ammonia level is at .25. My Nitrite level is off the chart as well as my Nitrates. I have done nothing to it other then to make sure there is ammonia in the water out of fear that I will kill off any beneficial bacteria by not supplying a food source. Should I leave it alone or should I do something to aid in the process of cycling the tank.

IME nitrites can "stall". What I used to do was not add food and nitrItes dropped in a few days. But that was with fish in the tank.

my .02

maintain Fw and marine system with a strong emphasis on balanced, stabilized system that as much as possible are self substaning.

have maintained FW systems for up to 9 years with descendants from original fish and marine aquariums for up to 8 years.

With no water changes, untreated tap water, inexpensive lighting by first starting the tank with live plants (FW) or macro algae( marine)

First I want to thank you for replying to my post. At this time ammonia is at 0. I will take your suggestion and not feed the tank and watch to see if the nitrite and nitrates drop over several days. If they do I will add a fish and carefully monitor for any spikes. I will post any changes for your information. Thanks again.

FWIW nitrates without anaerobic bacteria or live plants will increase to some value then level out with water changes.

NitrItes will drop to unmeasureable throu aerovic bacteria.

What concentration of ammonia have you been maintaining through the cycling process?
