Unhappy Betta stuck in siphon

So earlier an accident happened - my betta got sucked into the siphon I was cleaning his tank with and his head is now stuck in the small tube section but unaccessible. Me and my boyfriend have cut the tube apart and tried pulling him out and it hasn't worked.

I have a feeling the reason he might be stuck in there is that he has bad popeye (which ironically I was changing his water to help treat) in one eye. What is the best way to get him out? Should we just try and blow him out?

Sorry I know this is a stupid mistake I looked away from the tank for literally a second and he's too inquisitive :(

Be careful not to tear his head off... try blowing him out or using stronger scissors to cut the entire tube.

I am an aquarium caretaker in socal, with a past in saltwater and freshwater. I also used to work at a tropical fish store.

Hi,

Thank you for this, we have tried blowing him out and weirdly it seems to just go around him and he doesn't budge.

The plastic seems super strong and we can't cut it to save our lives but we're trying :/

If he is still alive, get aviation shears. They are designed to cut sheet metal and will cut that plastic easily.

I dont know how stuck he is, but I would try to slide something smooth and thin (collar stay, popsicle stick?) *gently* against where his head is stuck. Then you can try to cut away at the plastic , little by little without being so worried about cutting your beta. Just go slow and take breaks and hopefully you can cut him out.

Good luck!
