40 gallon planted tank stocking ideas?
I have a 20 gallon planted aquarium right now and am planning on buying a 40 gallon tank soon. I have 10 Neons, some shrimp, and a bristlenose pleco (who I will move to the bigger tank once established). The problem is that I like my pets to have names and it’s kind of hard to tell which member of the Brady Bunch each neon tetra is (Alice and Oliver included). I would like some ideas on fish I could keep in a community tank, twos/threes maximum, because I’m a weirdo that wants to name their fish... Any advice would be great!
That could be challenging as it eliminates schooling fish. A pair of angels would love a planted tank. I suggest starting off with three very young ones to find out who is happy with who, you might be able to keep all three just be careful during breeding. Dwarf gouramis are another good option that would work, research to see what type would work best in the tank conditions. Same goes for rams, the German ram types need high temps (82F-85F) while Bolivian prefer cooler temps (also much hardier). Apistogrammas are another great option, many types to check requirements first if you find ones you like. A tank with a pair of angels and a small group of German blue and electric blue rams (look different) would be striking in a planted tank.
