Eel compatability

We have a small (8") tiretrack eel in our semi-aggressive tank. First eel of it's type we've ever owned. We understand that it needs to be the only tiretrack in the tank, as they can be aggressive to their own species, but if possible, we'd like to add a fire eel into the tank.
Can anyone tell us if our tiretrack would accept a fire eel living in the same tank? the tiretrack has it's own, very definite territory staked out, but gets along well with the other tank denizens, including the other bottom dwellers (which include a 6" senegal bichir, a 11" pleco, and a redtail shark). We can't find any info on mixing eel species, so any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I've had a tire track eel and fire eel in the same tank for a limited amount of time. Fire eel was about 18" and the tire track was about 16". It got to the point where the fire eel had to be completely submerged in the sand and anytime he would come out to try and feed or swim about the tank the tire track would stalk and bite his tail repeatedly until he returned to being buried.

I wouldn't advise any other type of eel with a tire track. Although mine tolerated the fire eel for a short time it didn't last long and even with a size advantage the fire eel would have gotten killed had I not sold it. Aside from other "eels" they can tolerate just about anything that won't fit in their mouth and won't try to attack them though. I've had a few of them over the years with a wide variety of tank mates and I actually still have one today.

Good luck with the eel. And here's what you can look forward to in the future ;)
