Has anyone here ever fed their mosquito larvae to their Betta ? They love it, and it's fun to watch them chasing the larvae all around the tank. I put out several containers of water in a shady area near my home every year to allow mosquitos to lay their eggs in the water. I check it everyday, so no adult mosquitoes ever hatch !!! Every year I am provided with highly nutritious live food that costs me nothing but a little time.
You should give it a try. Make sure to feed only a few larvae at a time, so that they all get eaten. Your fish will then be able to do what comes naturally to them. They will be happier, healthier, and more likely to breed. After all, fish get bored with flake food, just as you would if you ate nothing but potatoes everyday. The following high definition video will show you just how fun this can be. Enjoy.

I do this all summer and you can actually make them go dorment for several months in a cold fridge with a sealed container. They are the key to getting my summer / outdoor fish started with a bang. I have actually dedicated a 100 gal stock tank to increase my summer supply. I do mostly livebearers outdoors in the summer and with a 4 month growing period, due to weather, the fish must get huge from eating the larva. You can also use 5 gal buckets, just put them ni the backyard and let the grass around them grow as tall as possible. Just make sure to harvest 3-4 times weekly. You can also produce snails in the same container. I use the snails to feed my Alleni Crayfish. Almost forgot, you can produce a load of Least Killies with the Mosquitos and snails. The LK's can't come close to eating all the mosquito larva and with a trio in a 5 gal bucket you can end up with 15-20 by the end of the summer.
