i used to use red sea coral pro until i had mag issues. i just wasnt getting a good reading. it is possible i had a bad batch but who knows. having switched to RC i havnt had issue. its cheaper too. the one problem i have with it is the scum that builds up in the bucket when mixing water. not a big deal, but something to be aware of.
I prefer Reef Crystals in a FOWLR aquarium, for its added buffering ability due to the additional borate added.
I use Instant Ocean in my reef, with the rational that the alkalinity reading will be more accurate, helping to maintain a more predictable calcium level. The downside of Reef Crystals in a reef is that the additional borate gives a slightly higher alkalinity reading... one which is lesser based on the calcium & magnesium levels.
LOL, i've used kent and instant ocean, beth cheap and i've never had issues with them. My lvls are pretty stable as far as mag, cal, and alk go. I'm happy with both.
Agreed. I also have had to use Kent at times and I have had the same results that I get with Instant Ocean with the exception that IO disolves a bit faster and cleaner
I have tried a few and found that Instant Ocean is my favorite. I like the way it dissolves, and I have had Phosphate problems with other "generic" brands.
